Back in June we had a visit from Louise Nichols who taught a wonderful Lino Print and Stitch workshop.
A little about Louise
Lino Print By Louise
It was lovely meeting Louise for the first time I think everyone will agree, Louise has a friendly nature with a gentle inspirational way of passing her skills onto others.
Saturday morning was spent exploring design ideas to make great prints, Designs could then be traced onto the blocks ready for cutting. Louise’s choice for block/lino printing is Easy Cut, its smooth cuts well and doesn’t crumble.
When cutting a design into a block you have the option to cut a positive image see the first 2 examples below or a negative image see 3rd print. Today’s lino option ( Easy cut , Soft cut or Vinyl) is a softer alternative to traditional lino which is still used by printmakers but requires warming on a hot plate before cutting and needs a very firm hand
By lunch time most block were cut ready to go and a few tentative prints were made using block print inks.
Block printing inks dry quite quickly so prints were ready to cut out and stitch into by Sunday morning
Sunday was embroidery day. A choice between hand and machine work was offered. On this weekend all of the lovely ladies decided to enjoy the relaxation and engagement of hand stitching whilst enjoying conversation with tea and cake. Not a bad way to spend the weekend.
If you missed this workshop Louise returns this weekend 14/15 September 2019 we gave a couple of places available call the shop 01995 603363 to book.
