Creative Hand Embroidered Gardens for beginners

Hand embroidery workshop, Garstang

Four weeks of thread indulgence – creative hand embroidery stitches and combination stitches to inspire, step by step instructions on how to use you’re new stitches to make your own embroidered garden.

Over the four weeks you will create a beautiful hand embroidered garden with stitch, building a collection of stitches each week to add to your design.
You will cover; preparing your embroidery hoop, fabric preparation and how to embellish your fabric pre embroidery.

You will learn several decorative embroidery stitches each week, starting with running stitch, back stitch, stem stitch, seed stitch. Each week you will have to opportunity to make a sample page of stitches and methods to keep for future reference.
There will be homework to do over the four weeks.

Week 1

• Suitable background colour techniques for creative embroidery.
• Hoops, binding wooden hoops and spring hoops.
• Needle appropriate to your thread.
• Finishing raw wedges, overcast stitch.
• I will be showing you lots of inspirational embroidery projects to set your embroidery juices off.
• Knots, waste knots, finishing ends.
• -Running stitch, weaving and lacing.
• -Back stitch, sewing round tight curves, circles
• -Stem stitch & seed stitch if time
Week 2 Morning
• Sample – Fly stitch… great for allium heads,
• Sample Lazy Daisy stitch, (detached chain stitch) perfect for flowers, Afternoon
• Feather stitch
• Sample -Blanket stitch/Button hole.. Button hole circle -how you can use these stitches

Week 3 Morning
• sample- Sheaf stitch
• Sample -Spiders web filling
• Sample -French Knots Afternoon
Combination stitches
• daisy stitch with French knot
• double daisy stitch
• Pistol stitch

Week 8
• Finish Garden embroidery,
• Refresh any stitch technique.
• Catch up will any missed samples
• Press and lace your embroidery piece.

You will need

  • 1/2 yard of medium weight calico.
  • 10 inch wooden embroidery hoop, 6 inch hoop for samples
  • 1 inch packet of bias binding, white or cream.
  • 1 pack of embroidery/crewel needles mixed sizes
  • Anchor or DMC cotton embroidery floss in colours of your choice. (3 greens and 5- 7 colours.)We have a good selection in the shop
  • Sharp scissors, fabric scissors.
  • Note Book, pens pencils
  • You may want to wear a thimble
    There will be a list of materials sent out to you when you book.

Terms and Conditions

Booking for all workshops is essential to avoid disappointment.

Please contact Linda either via email or phone to confirm there is a place available for the workshop you wish to attend. Your place will then be reserved for 10 days whilst you arrange payment either by cheque or BACs payment.

Creative Thread Workshops reserves the right to cancel a workshop if insufficient numbers enrol – we will either return your payment or offer an alternative date.

Payment is non-refundable if you cancel within 2 weeks of the workshop date. We will try our best to fill your place, if we do we will refund your payment or you can use your payment towards a future booking.
